If you recently switched to a Mac, downloaded Chrome, and decided that it’s a better choice than Safari, then it’s probably a good idea to set Google’s browser as default instead of Apple’s.

When you launch the browser for the first time, Chrome will actually ask you if you want to set it as default. But, assuming you dismissed that box and still want to go ahead with the decision then here’s you go about things:

Step 1. Launch Chrome on your Mac.

Step 2. Now click on Chrome in the menu bar and then click on Preferences.

Step 3. On the left you’ll see a bunch of options, including Default Browser. Click on it.

Step 4. Now click on Make Default.

Whenever you open a link, it will now open up in Google Chrome by default, confirming that it has been set as your default browser. If, for any reason at all, you want to set Safari as your default browser, just follow the steps outlined below:

Step 1. Click on the Apple logo in the menu bar.

Step 2. Click on System Preferences.

Step 3. Now click on General.

Step 4. Here, you’ll see an option called Default web browser. Click to open it up and select Safari.

Interestingly, you can use these steps to set Google Chrome as default browser as well. In fact, any browser for that matter, including Opera, Firefox and so on, without having to dig deep into the web browser itself to find the option in order to switch.

There are a ton of reasons why you’d want to switch over to Chrome and not stick with Safari. For example, you have all your passwords stored with your Google account. It’s only logical that you stick with what’s completely native to you when you move over to the Mac. Over time, you can slowly migrate your passwords over to Safari and make the switch. Until you decide to do that, you have the option to keep on using Chrome on your Mac.
